Wanted a real Kukri but couldn't afford it. Settled for the Cold Steel Kukri. Glad I did. The striking edge at impact point almost doubles the swing strength. Perfect length, weight and fantasic scabbard. Easy to sharpen and carry. Add a lanyard for safety...any machete will fly out of your hand if it hits wrong. Tie it Police style, don't put your whole hand through loop, only a thumb grip.

For the money, the Cold Steel is an excellent small machete.
Keep in mind that the factory edge is junk as are the cutting edges on most machetes. I ran mine across my 1" x 30" benchtop belt sander with a 220 grit "slack" belt to give the edge a more convex grind and now it will out-chop the Cold Steel San-Mai III Kukri that costs over $400.00.
The traditional shaped handle is very comfortable for being a harder plastic and will fit just about any size hand without causing blisters after prolonged use.
Don't let anyone fool you. The handle on these will not fall off and the forward weight is just enough to aid in chopping without tiring your arm out. I can swing this thing all day and it is a pleasure to work with.
The curved profile allows for a longer cutting edge that draws the blade into the media you are working with. It also allows you utilize the machete as a draw-knife when fashioning tools while in the bush.
This is a tremendously handy item to keep near you at all times. It is like the duct tape of machetes. 1,001 uses and counting. Do not miss a chance to own one of these and remember to convex that edge.

This is a good-looking blade, quite solid and heavier than I expected. That is due in part to the thickness of the blade. It's good, thick metal, not at all thin or floppy like many machetes are. The curvature and overall look is very good. The forward balance of the weight makes it wield more like an axe than a machete, but that is not a bad thing at all; it's just an axe with an 18" blade!
Just to point out, the blade is made in South Africa.
As others have noted, the blade does not come well sharpened; you'll need to spend some time putting a proper edge on it yourself. Also, while the included sheath is quite decent, it sometimes takes fiddling to get the blade out since the tip of the blade stays pinched in the floppy sheath. It's not a big issue.
All in all, a worthwhile buy. I got it as a gift for a knife-nut and he was thrilled!

I was torn between purchasing this item (cheap price!) and the much more expensive Cold Steel Kukri Knife (amazing knife!) Ultimately I chose the machete because I intended to use this for some really abusive work in the woods. This is hands down the best machete I have ever used. I like the thickness of the blade a lot. This makes it very reliable and less prone to bending like some other machetes on mis-hits. The extra heft of the thicker blade also makes up for the shorter length of this machete and helps to deliver plenty of power for chopping chores. The handle design makes it easy to flip over and use the spine for breaking without ruining the blade edge. The size is perfect to put in my pack, but the size is also the only downside of this product. If you are chopping your way through thick brush for longer periods of time, you are going to want a longer machete, like the larger version of this machete: Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete or the Cold Steel Latin Machete: Cold Steel Latin Machete 24" Md: 97AM24 The short length of the Kukri Machete means that you will not generate as much force with each swing as you would with a longer machete. This translates in to more effort required for each swing to achieve the desired result. So if you need a machete for all day use, this is NOT what you are looking for. If you need an outstanding all-around tool for the woods that doesn't take up a lot of room, then buy this tool NOW.

The blade isn't exactly straight coming from the handle and its hard to get in and out of the sheeth. Sometimes the sheeth sticks so hard to the blade I have to take it off my belt and work it back and forth until the blade is free. Wouldn't be a problem if you had all the time in the world but definitely not for someone who needs something dependable on the go. A good beater machete for work in the woods.
