A perfect material choice for a working machete. Balanced about half an inch in front of the ergonomic grip. The reinforced sheathe makes for easy carrying through the brush. A fine piece of steel from Gerber. Perfect for Steeled Escrima.

I bought this as a gift. My dad was very excited to start using it while hiking and camping. I shopped around at a few sports places and the price on Amazon was unbeatable.

I bought this machete because Gerber is known for quality blades. But right out the box, I was dissapointed. It has a very flimsy feel to it. As mentioned in other reviews, this machete does not have a full tang. I do have to admit, though, the serrated side is very useful for cutting down limbs from my palm trees, so it wasn't a complete waste of money.

I picked one of these up a few months ago for use on my 4wheeler. I ride in some nasty areas with heavy brush and deep cypress swamps. As the machete came from the box the edge was all but worthless. I will disagree with other reviewers here though, it will take an edge. A little time with some wet dry sandpaper and it had a very nice convex edge (dont use a grinding wheel, thats just nuts). I also beveled/sharpened all the teeth on the saw blade with a dremel and cutoff wheel. I Do agree that the handle attetchment is worthless so I used a little metal epoxy to help secure it in the handle. THe finish wears pretty easily and even with it in tact the blade will rust. A coat of turtle wax is all that is needed to prefent that. I wish the blade was a couple mm thicker because it could use some extra mass to help cut and chop.
I've used this extensively over the past several months and overal it has worked well. I have yet to buy a machete that didnt need some work and this is no different. It's flaws are just different than other machetes I've owned. Thus I rate it a 3 which is average. It works but it needs some help to work well.
I will say that the saw back has been a great help in clearing trails and cutting cypress knees that I get my quad hung up on. For that reason I will not be looking for a replacement machete for the quad/ATV.

for 17 bucks its worth it....not full tang so its not a solid as id like but its lighter because of it...still fairly solid considering...p.s. not for kids.. teeth on the back are pretty vicious. makes a good hand saw.
