Grows fast August 27, 2010 M. Mehta Great garden. Grows really fast and is the perfect size to keep on an island or smallish table in the kitchen. Doesn't quite fit on the windowsill, but that doesn't matter since it has its own light. So far i've only grown the herbs that came with it, and i'm not sure what to do with thyme, but the fresh basil and the chives are wonderful to have.
Way overpriced, not so fantastic as it sounds May 3, 2010 E. Jacobsen (Boston, MA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is severely overpriced, and produces limited results (and I am an avid gardener). It makes an annoying buzzing sound and produces a bright, harsh light, so much so that I keep mine covered with a dark towel when the plants are still small (when they get bigger the towel might hinder their growth). Don't buy it. Way, way, way overrated and hyped up. Get a pot of dirt and some seeds and go the old fashioned way.
Not So Great April 6, 2010 D. Bale 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this during an extreme discount on Amazon's Black Friday sales. I'd be pretty upset if I had payed the full price. Mine came with chives, thyme, and basil. The chives never sprouted. The thyme did not grow well, it stayed puny. The basil did great.
Now, about four months into use, the automatic light timer is no longer accurate. It seems to turn on and off at random. I intend to unplug and clean it, then let it sit for a month and try some new seeds (peppers). Maybe it just can't take 4 straight months plugged in.
Disappointed in every way March 31, 2010 Eric Gross (Philadelphia Suburbs) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought the AeroGarden for my wife for Xmas 2009. With considerable expectation we set it up to grow cherry tomatoes on about January 1 2010. The first thing we noticed was that, per other Amazon reviews, it makes a not so subtle buzzing noise. And the buzzing never stops. While it doesn't bother my wife, it has bothered me. I can't speak for our dog Shadow. The plant did grow with very little maintenance, but here we are exactly 3 months later and we have about 10 very small, still not fully ripe, cherry tomatoes. And they are still not ready to be picked, since they are still green. Meanwhile, the plant is not looking good. Hopefully, it will live long enough to yield something. My third and final complaint is that the tomatoes are really small with one exception - even for cherry tomatoes. I don't know what we've spent in electricity to keep this device buzzing annoyingly along, but whatever it is, it is too much. I can't yet report to how the tomatoes will actually taste and I'm not really sure if that would make any difference at all.
Great Gift March 13, 2010 ReaderRaven (D.C. Metro Area) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my 82-year-old Mom, and she's been enjoying it very much. The flowers are growing well and blooming, though one of them is not as robust as the others. She had some trouble getting the light/dark cycles set at first---the directions were not all that clear for this model---but we eventually figured out that she just needed to get up early in the morning, unplug it, and plug it back in to reset the timing. I like hearing her reports on her garden's progress, too (kind of the ideal low maintenance "pet" for her, really...), and will probably get her a set of herb pods to try next.
