| Customer Reviews: Grows herbs nicely! February 12, 2010 Lija Rasa (Bethesda, MD USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I couldn't resist buying this item when it was on a Lightning Deal for $120. I've now had this AeroGarden with the herb kit planted for two weeks. All 6 pods have sprouted and are growing nicely. It's been very fun to watch, and the maintenance involved is minimal. Just need to add some water every few days and every 2 weeks add nutrient tablets that come with the herb kit.
Some people have complained about the noise, but it hasn't bothered me at all. It's very quiet - much quieter than I expected. The lights, on the other hand, are extremely bright. I have it set up in the kitchen, so it doesn't bother me, but in the bedroom or the living room it would be another story. I definitely wouldn't recommend this for someone living in a studio apartment.
All in all this was a very worthwhile purchase for me. I am thinking of getting another one to grow salad greens. :-)
AeroGarden works so far but Bright and Noisey February 6, 2010 Bill Sheley (Bronx, NY) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had my areogarden for a little over a week now and my tomato seeds have already started to grow. For a full full review please check out [...]
Addictive February 5, 2010 Boris Vengerenko (New York, NY United States) Great idea to have an automated garden during the winter. Recently ordered the second system. There is a slight problem though - noise, which is appears after couple of weeks and is noticeable even few rooms away. Ended up by cutting the internal air pump off and replacing it with the external Whisper pump for aquariums.
Also, I find it rather funny, the seeds which came with the system suppose to be tomatoes according to the labels on it. After 2 months it's clear that I've got peppers instead.
Overall, we enjoy the new toy.

I purchased this as a gift for my husband to grow tomatoes over the winter. After sorting through the various models I choose the VeggiePro with Ruby Heirloom tomato seed kit. He set up as directed on Dec 4 and we waited. Directions are easy to follow. Plants sprouted nicely but after growing a few weeks we became suspicious about the appearance of the two plants. The leaves did not look anything like tomato plants. Apparently we are growing pepper plants! Everything is clearly labeled as "Ruby Heirloom tomato" but we're not exactly sure what variety of pepper we are actually growing. Very disappointing since my husband hates peppers. I contacted Aerogrow by email and they responded that they've never heard of this happening before and would send out a replacement seed kit (we'll see...). Mistakes happen and I hope we actually receive the new kit. Meanwhile I have adopted the mystery plants which are growing nicely.
Not all seeds will grow on these. January 27, 2010 M. Su (Los Angeles, CA USA) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
I bought the $200 large size that comes with the herbs, that one grew great. Did we have much use for the herbs? No, it grew fast, when we need to make a large dish, it wasn't enough, you can't pull off everything or you will kill it. But when it's not being used daily, then it just dries up and dies when the leaves get close to the bulb. None-the-less, it was fun to watch it grow, and just occasionally using it on a dish, just makes the dish taste better because I grew it, I cooked it, now I can eat it. Good feeling.
So why the 2 star deduction? Well, after the 1st batch of herbs, got the tomato seeds for xmas. out of the 3 seed pods, 0 grew. Okay, that didn't discourage me, I thought I messed up somewhere. Got another set of seeds mixed Romaine. Out of 6 pods, 2 never came out, of the 4 that did, the leaves are so wimpy, it's like leaving lettuce out on the counter for a week soft. So, another batch of failure. By now, I think this is only good for small items like herbs and maybe flowers.
It's a cool gadget to use one time, if you are trying to save $ or actually treating this as a garden that you plan to really use for cooking, it's not a good choice. Considering the energy cost, the high cost of light bulb, adding water on a daily basis ( once the plants get big, you need to refill every day ), it's really not worth the hassel.
